Maral, known in cosplay circles as Sarcasm-hime, has been costuming in the fandom world since 1999, but has always been interested in sewing and costumes. When she realized there were places where you could dress up in crazy costumes ALL WEEKEND, she was hooked (and wishes she’d discovered fandom years earlier). Her work has won her numerous workmanship awards, however these days she is more often found backstage staffing or judging masquerades.

While her early costumes were quite simple (and sometimes didn’t, um, use much fabric), nowadays Maral usually gravitates towards obscure and ridiculously complicated costumes purely for the challenge of it. Her latest project involved 5 months of beading for a recreation of Cyd Charisse’s green flapper dress from the movie “Singin’ in the Rain”, which won Best Recreation (Master Division) at Costume-Con 29.

As she has self-described “Artistic ADD”, Maral is always looking for new things to learn and new techniques to try. She dances with the Tribal bellydance group Shades of Araby, has a business making jewellery and hair accessories as “Magpie Creations“, and collects far too many kimono.
